GROW FOREST! (danish title VOKS SKOV)  is a sensory, audience-engaging performance walk inspired by the German forester Peter Wohlleben’s book The Secret Life of Trees, which demonstrates that trees communicate with each other, care for their offspring, and look after old or sick neighbors. Trees have feelings, perceptions, and memory. They warn other trees of potential threats. Information travels beneath the forest floor in a network of fungal hyphae stretched between tree roots.

Arboreal biological knowledge is the foundation of the performance walk’s lyrical approach to tree families. It is in the interplay between audience and performers that the experience unfolds at the forest’s calm pace. The audience’s sensory understanding of the forest flora and fungi is anchored physically, as we explore the trees’ physiognomy from crown to root. The senses are challenged, and the experience of the interrelated life of plant species is expanded.

Each performance walk is unique and adapted to the forest’s tree species and the season. Performers and singers appear along the way at scene stations: an old hollow tree eaten from the inside, a large fallen oak with outstretched roots, a tall beech with a magnificent canopy, and the forest floor in soft humus with the fungi’s hyphal network. We journey into the forest’s Wood Wide Web.
